What Is a Pituitary Tumor?
Pituitary tumors (pituitary adenomas) arise from the pituitary gland (a pea-sized gland that sits at the base of the brain and acts as a key regulator of hormone-producing glands throughout the body). The overwhelming majority of tumors arising from the Pituitary gland are benign. Some of these tumors can affect hormone production while others do not.

Treatment Options
Many Pituitary tumors end up requiring treatment. Some can be treated medically (using a medication) that can influence the abnormal hormone production of the pituitary gland. The majority, however, will require surgery. There are two options for surgery, 1) Microsurgery (open surgery) Or 2) Endoscopic Surgery (through the nose). The best option will depend on the size and the relationship of the tumor to vital surrounding structures.
